Suit You Sir.
Link here for anyone that doesn't remember The Fast Show.
What does one do when you spend most of the time at home and in comfies - make a suit obviously! That being said this is a rather comfortable suit and is made entirely out of stretch ponte roma. Niccceee.
Colour of the season is apparently burgundy so here I am bang on trend (::definitely intentional ahem::). This gorgeous ponte fabric (and the silver grey jersey bias tape is from Little Legs fabric).
I wanted to try making a blazer as a bit of a change from a cardigan, and the Ellie and Mac Elevated Blazer popped up on sale - well as it was also stretchy I was sold.
Of course I couldn't just make myself a plain blazer could I - so on went a side stripe. This consists of jersey bias tape simply top-stitched onto the shoulder seam and down the sleeve, plus a little bit on the pocket flap.
There are no scary welt pockets, just patch pockets, however I think they look quite neat with the top pocket flap.
A nice touch for this blazer is that there are back darts which curve into you nicely giving a lovely shape to the jacket rather just 'boxy' as some of the others can be.
The pattern comes with a few variations as to pockets and curved hems. I went for a classic straight cut version. It's an unlined jacket so really quite straightforward in terms of construction and the instructions are very good. I like to bind the inside facings when something is unlined for a little 'extra' touch.
The sizing was just right in my opinion. The chart put me at XL-XXL so I gambled without a toile, and the gamble paid off. No changes made!I wore this to the Norwich Sewcials autumn retreat in November and so ridiculous photographs were necessary. Striking my best 80's catalogue pose.
The trousers are my go-to modified Style Arc Parker Ponte Pants (the original has a faux pocket, I like to add a real one and a wider waistband).
The stripe on the trousers is again bias binding top-stitched onto the outer leg seam BEFORE sewing up the rest of the trousers! (Very tricky to do as an afterthought although not impossible).
There we have it - a suit of sorts! And because we are in December I better make it festive...
