Hello all and 'Happy New Year' although that seems daft now.
Despite January lasting over 900 days I failed spectacularly to capture and blog any sewing whatsoever. I have been in hibernation like the tortoises and the weather wasn't particularly inspiring me to take photos.
Flipping back into my photo album I have actually got a few makes to share although nothing 'new' to review or report on.
Over the Christmas break I also finished up a couple of tops which were gifts and therefore can now be shared. Taking inspiration from the Tilly Buttons Drew Sweater - I colour blocked a tried and true pattern with some amazing french terry from 1stForFabrics. This pattern is the Greenstyle Creations - Valerie Top, Dress and Tunic.
I did jump on the Bestie Bag bandwagon - annnnd I'm not a fan. Despite it's huge popularity, I found the pattern to be a bit 'blah'. The internal pockets sag and it's just a bit unstructured for me. I even went back in and added some foam for structure but the style is just not 'my bag'.
My sister is now the proud owner of this version. As I love the print I went on to make a trusty Noodlehead pattern - the Traverse Bag. Much more my vibe.
The pattern is a zipped cross-body bag, side pockets and side flap pocket with good internal storage too. A great pattern as most of it is rectangles and easy to deal with! Added pigeon for that 'je ne sais quoi'.
It has been freezing as we all know so I got a trusty Logan Shacket whipped up in some beautiful flannel cotton.Fantastic for layering and very warm instead of a cardigan. This felt very 'cowboy' after I added some brass snap fasteners.
Later in the month I got a bee in my bonnet about recreating a cardigan that I had seen on Pinterest. It turned out to be a rather expensive Gucci number so challenge accepted - let me sew bugs onto a black cardy.
I found lots of cute bugs and beetle appliques on Etsy and eBay and essentially just hand sew them onto an old cardigan that was from Matalan. No it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's out of my system and I think its fun!
I have now embarked on something slightly more exciting which I hope to be able to report on this month. Blazers seem to be on my mind so I've been on an expedition trying out some different patterns and trying to find a winner. (Hint - it is NOT the Heather Blazer).
Last but absolutely not least I'm not sure I've formally introduced the newest member of our family to the blog - we adopted a little rescue Leopard Gecko last year. Here is lovely Lilly!
Wishing everyone well and thank you for stopping by - feel free to comment and come and say hello on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Bloglovin too xxx
